From March 10 to 12, 2027, we will present data-driven innovations for sustainable aluminium alloys at LightMAT 2027 in Siegen.

Our presentation

“Combining DOE, ICME and Computational Thermodynamics for Efficient Exploration of 5xxx Aluminium Alloy Design Space”

The shift to e-mobility poses a major challenge for the metallic circular economy: the growing surplus of aluminium casting alloys from end-of-life vehicles is continuously changing the chemical composition of aluminium scrap. Conventional trial-and-error approaches quickly reach their limits when assessing these fluctuating scrap qualities for the production of high-grade rolled products.

Our solution: An ICME-based workflow for the alloy development of the future

At LightMAT 2027 (7th International Conference on Light Materials), we show how large, multidimensional alloy spaces can be explored efficiently and in a targeted way.

In our presentation, you will learn how we advance materials development with Matplus EDA® and JMatPro®:

  • Intelligent design-space exploration: Combining Design of Experiments (DOE / Latin Hypercube Sampling) with computational thermodynamics for the rapid evaluation of thousands of 5xxx aluminium scenarios
  • Sustainability through data: Reliable assessment of varying scrap compositions to keep recycling rates in rolled products stable despite complex starting materials
  • Automated multi-objective optimization: Use of modern algorithms (MADS, NSGA-II) via automated interfaces to identify optimal property trade-offs (e.g. Young’s modulus vs. density) in a data-driven way

Away from inefficient trial and error – towards a simulation-based, predictive framework for resilient materials concepts.

We look forward to exchanging ideas with you in Siegen!

When: March 10–12, 2027
Where: LightMAT 2027, Campus Buschhütten, Siegen (and online)
